The WEB manager for the Knowledge Centre selected as the new president for EFITA
Nicolai Fog Hansen, web manager for the Knowledge Centre for Agriculture, has recently been elected as new President for EFITA, a European federation for development and use of IT in the agriculture and food sector.
Prag, the capital of Czech Republic, is presently host for a major European conference on the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in agriculture, the environment and the food sectors.
The conference is arranged by the European Federation for Information Technology in Agriculture, Food and the Environment (EFITA), that now has a colleague from the Danish Knowledge Centre for Agriculture at its top. The newly elected president for the federations is Nicolai Fog Hansen who is WEB manager for the Knowledge Centre for Agriculture, Web & IT.
He has been member of the federation since 1998, member of the board of management for 8 years and has now been elected as president by the other member countries.
- I believe that the members have elected me as president due to my many years of participation in EFITA and as they are of the opinion that I can carry the values of the federation forward, said Nicolai Fog Hansen.
He also hopes that the new title can be advantageous for the Knowledge Centre.
- It will bring the name, Knowledge Centre for Agriculture, onto the international map and will confirm that we are leading in Europe as regards bringing WEB applications out to farmers. In many EU projects it is now an essential part of the project that the new knowledge generated is brought all the way to the farmer in the form of, for example, IT solutions, and here the Knowledge Centre is an important partner.
Farming and IT in Europe
The mission of EFITA is to facilitate the exchange of information and experience on ICT development in relation to agriculture in an effort to increase competitiveness and to advance the use of ICT in the agriculture sector.
As new president Nicolai Fog Hansen has, together with the board of management, therefore two major tasks.
- Our principle duties are to arrange the periodically occurring conference where university researchers from the whole of Europe are invited to hold lectures on the latest knowledge in the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in agriculture, the environment and the food sectors. At the same time it is important that we constantly work at getting ICT and agriculture on the agenda in Europe, explained Nicolai Fog Hansen.
