India has the money and an expanding demand for milk products. Denmark has the most efficient and most modern production of milk in the world. Perhaps, the beginning of a Danish business adventure based on the export of knowledge and technology.
India is the biggest producer of milk in the world with a rapidly expanding dairy sector. Denmark has the most modern production of milk in the World. Conditions that are maybe paving the way for a Danish business adventure.
Recently the Danish embassy in New Delhi has been approached on numerous occasions by Indian companies wishing to establish large scale milk production units in India. These are large multi sector businesses that can see a business opportunity in an expanding dairy market, but have as good as no experience in milk production.
- In India Denmark is very well known for its milk production. Therefore these companies are approaching the Danish Embassy and seeking advice in establishing and operating a production of milk so that they can obtain the highest possible return from their investment, says the Senior Adviser at the Embassy Paolo Drostby.
- These companies wish to establish modern “model dairy farms” and that is why they are looking to Denmark, he explains.
The Knowledge Centre for Agriculture will make a dairy package
Paolo Drostby is presently in Denmark where he is in dialogue with the Knowledge Centre for Agriculture regarding assistance to the Indian businesses.
- The Knowledge Centre has the contacts and most of the knowledge required – from constructing herd housing, milking equipment, breeding material, feeding etc, explained Paolo Drostby.
Therefore he sees the Knowledge Centre in a possible coordinating role for a consortium of different companies that can work together to assist the Indian companies.
Torben Huus-Bruun, Director International, Knowledge Centre for Agriculture recognises this exciting advisory opportunity to assist in the development of the milk production interests of the Indian businesses.
- There are without doubt exciting opportunities in this as regards export of both Danish knowledge and technology, said Torben Huus-Bruun.
He will now, in cooperation with the Cattle Production Department, Knowledge Centre for Agriculture, proceed by seeing how the assignment can best be undertaken and which Danish companies, that could be considered.
