The large technical database at the Knowledge Centre for Agriculture has over the last 15 years provided advisors and other users with access to the latest knowledge.
It was on the 2 April 1996 that for the first time users if they had access to the new internet could access www.landbrugsinfo.dk and read the latest articles and news on agricultural matters.
Since then LandbrugsInfo has been the direct communication line for the knowledge that is generated by the Knowledge Centre. The users are primarily advisers in the DLBR organisation that bring the latest knowledge out to work with their clients, farmers. LandbrugsInfo is also used directly by farmers and other organisations that have a need for the latest agricultural knowledge.
Nicolai Fog Hansen, Head of WEB, has been involved with LandbrugsInfo since the earliest days in 1996, when for the first time information was made available over LandbrugsInfo. It was during 1997 that all technical areas were covered ending dissemination by photocopying articles and forwarding these to the local centres with detailed guidelines on filing, specifying which documents these could replace etc.etc.
- Of course this was a great step forward in reducing administration of information dissemination even though not all advisers at the local centres had internet access to their computers, says Nicolai Fog Hansen, who sends a message of recognition to Leif Herlov, former vice Director for the Knowledge Centre, for being the initiator behind LandbrugsInfo.
-That was a very forward looking decision.
Prepared for the future
The database today holds more than 75.000 documents and articles on all aspects of modern agricultural production, and every day new ones are published by the experts at the Knowledge Centre.
About a year ago a major facelift of the LandbrugsInfo home page was undertaken resulting in a new design with improved search functions. Thereby the database has been upgraded to meet future demands where speed of availability and access to knowledge is more important than ever.
-We are presently contracting a new employee to take the responsibility for ensuring that LandbrugsInfo is current, up-to-date and user-friendly. This is being undertaken to ensure that LandbrugsInfo will continue to be the right and primary source for accessing new technical knowledge, says Nicolai Fog Hansen.
