Organic advisers are trained in sustainability

For consumers and breeders of food products it is no longer sufficient that products are approved as organic by the state authorities. They ask for additional documentation for the organic, economic and social sustainability in the production.

This is why the Knowledge Centre for Agriculture, Organic Farming, together with partners from other European countries initiates a new project. It will put the organic advisers in a position to help growers attach great importance to sustainability in production. The partners are among Europe's leading organic organisations and research institutions.

- There is a need to upgrade the organic farming and the advising of it. It is simply a prerequisite that organic farming both with regard to production and brand continues to be attractive, says Niels Nørskov, Marketing Manager of Organic Farming, Knowledge Centre for Agriculture.

- The objective of the project is therefore to train advisers in order to obtain sustainability in a wide sense as a key area of focus in their advising. We will establish an education, where the advisers will be taught and trained in the various tools that are designed specifically to evaluate and document the sustainability of organic production. The tools have been developed by our partners in the project.

- In-service training will boost the organic advisory service significantly in one of the most focused areas within the market and which becomes increasingly more important to consider for organic farming, says Niels Nørskov.
