Cows on Danish farms have better welfare conditions now than previously. This is confirmed in the report entitled ” Kontrol af Dyrevelfærd i 2008 og 2009” (Control of Animal Welfare in 2008 and 2009), that has recently been published by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.
The report contains a summary of the results of animal welfare control in cow herds, and indicates a reduction in the number of objections from 170 in 2008 to 107 in 2009.
According to National Consultant Peter Enemark from the Knowledge Centre for Agriculture the increased focus on animal welfare has resulted in farmers being better at following welfare regulations.
- The positive results are an indication that there is an increasing focus on animal welfare both by the public in general and on the farm. And the increased recognition of animal welfare rights results in a better understanding of the regulations, says Peter Enemark.
